Following the pilot project at Ponesai Vanhu Junior School, the Higherlife Foundation Health and Crisis response team took on another challenge by throwing a Thanksgiving and Christmas party for children at Chitenderano children’s home in Rusape. Chitenderano children’s home cares for 22 orphaned children and is situated some 30km from Rusape town.

This special event, which was new to most of the children at the home was packed with fun games and activities and all 22 children received new clothes and Christmas presents. A total of 67 children and adults enjoyed a home made Christmas meal and witnessed the Higherlife Foundation team handover a play center, mini library and solar powered borehole to help alleviate the water challenges being faced by the orphanage. As the team was handing over the donation the resident pastor at Chitenderano thanked Higherlife Foundation particularly, Mrs. Masiyiwa, for her continued support to Orphans and vulnerable children in Sub Saharan Africa. The pastor highlighted that such an event has never happened and no one other than Higherlife Foundation has ever thought of celebrating Christmas with the orphaned children.

He went on to encourage the foundation to keep up the good work, which is touching so many young lives. As we all go out to Christmas, lets celebrate Christmas with the less fortunate in our communities in our individual capacity and spread the joy of the festive season because its these simple things that make the people around us feel special as well as help our children grow in to responsible citizens and leaders.
