With the 2015/2016 rainy season around the corner our University of Zimbabwe Global Leaders decided to take the responsibility of cleaning the shopping areas around the University of Zimbabwe as well as giving those areas new life by planting trees. This initiative was done to avoid the clogging of road drainage systems which throughout the years, which have led to road flooding. In fulfilling the above objective they partnered with organizations such as Zimbabwe Youth Council, Community Initiative Zimbabwe, The Church of Nazarene, KFC Belgravia as well as the City of Harare Council.

The program on this day started at 9:30am with a prayer from Pastor Nick from The Church of Nazarene Belgravia. The participants were a mixture of Global leaders from different institutions like UZ, MSU, Kwekwe Poly, Harare Poly amongst others. The Global Leaders were also joined by KFC staff members and several junior parliamentarians.

To kick start the Cleanup, the group was divided into 5 groups which were assigned different areas of the Belgravia shopping center. From there people went to the Pendenis shopping area where massive cleaning was done and 60 trees planted. This left the scenery clean, giving a huge challenge to the vendors in that area to maintain the new view. More trees were planted at Mount Pleasant Sports Club.

After a fruitful 5hr period of caring for the environment the team was ferried back to the Belgravia shopping center were they received refreshments. The closing remarks were given by Mr P. Severa, Chairman for Community Initiative Zimbabwe. Mr Chisvo from Zimbabwe Youth Council hailed the work done saying such ventures should be done regularly to alert the community of poor waste disposal practices gratitude goes to Higherlife foundation and all stakeholders mentioned above for making the venture a success.
