“Investing in health to strengthen livelihoods”

Health

Our work in Health focuses on supporting students on scholarships with health education, and treatment through public or private institutions. In addition, we support Delta Philanthropies to catalyse innovations, interventions and actions that create broader access to affordable, quality health services to the most vulnerable communities and contribute to greater resilience of health care systems.

Health

Higherlife Foundation has a history of responding to communities in need during times of critical distress. In 2008, we formed the National Healthcare Trust to swiftly respond to the unprecedented cholera epidemic that claimed approximately 4,000 lives. As we faced cholera again in 2018, we harnessed the energies of our Staff and volunteers, as well as partners across the Econet Group to once again contribute to the containment of this outbreak. Taking the lessons learned from our responses in 2008 and 2018, we recently strengthened our emergency response, health, and nutrition programming through a set of holistic interventions that recognize the interplay between health, nutrition and livelihoods.

Current programming includes:

  • Maternal health
  • Emergency Response
  • Health promotion, education and trainings
  • Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
  • Cholera Response/Roadmap to elimination
  • Nutrition

Harnessing the power in volunteerism

Recognizing the power of volunteerism during times of national crisis, in 2018 we launched a volunteer community called #ThisIsMyHome. This vibrant grassroots community is connecting willing and able volunteers with communities in need, particulary during times of crisis. We envision this community will grow to form the foundation of a powerful volunteer movement that will span across our nation.
