  • Higherlife Foundation celebrates Midwives across the globe

Annually the 5th of May marks an International Day of Celebration and honour for midwives. We at Higherlife Foundation join the rest of the world in celebrating the phenomenal work done by the men and women who have devoted their time to the care of mothers and their newborns.  Midwives are the frontline caregivers and the backbone of maternal and child health care on the African continent. Offering support through antennal, intrapartum and post-partum healthcare these men and women are an integral part of our society.

Midwives are central to the prevention of maternal and newborn deaths. With adequate investment in midwifery, 4.3 million lives could be saved annually by 2035 (State of the World’s Midwifery report 2021).

That’s why through our maternal health project in partnership with the Elma Group of Foundations and Delta Philanthropies we have provided midwives like Sister Mujajati with the critical equipment and training they need to save the lives of mothers and their babies.
