As Higherlife Foundation we believe in breaking down the barriers to Africa’s prosperity through education. We started planting learning hubs in Zimbabwe, Burundi and Lesotho equipped with computers, tablets and internet connectivity to ensure students and entire communities had access to educational resources. We realised that more had to be done to ensure that students had access to quality education and so we challenged our way of thinking and developed a cutting edge approach to better education in Africa which we called Ruzivo Smart learning.

The Africa education sector particularly for the rural student is bestowed with challenges that limit the potential of many young bright minds. So we made our Ruzivo education model transferrable and applicable to the government school system where the majority of disadvantaged students study.

Through Ruzivo disadvantaged schools have access to low cost high quality education curricula that is endorsed by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Curriculum Development Unit (CDU). With a vast array of subjects available like Shona and Ndebele, Ruzivo’s content is relevant and tailored to meet the needs of Zimbabwean students anywhere, giving every child an equal chance for success.

At the Centre of the Ruzivo Smart Learning platform is the desire to impact, transform and enhance the education and academic results of millions of learners across Zimbabwe by aligning all its content with the Zimbabwean curricula. We want to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and so we have been installing Ruzivo Smart Learning in schools across Zimbabwe.

With a current average student to text book ratio of 1 text book per 10 students in Zimbabwe, Ruzivo Smart Learning is alleviating text book shortages by making rich digital content aligned to the Zimbabwean curricula available online for free. Through its innovative content delivery, Ruzivo brings a new way of learning that is fun and engaging allowing students better chances of improving their academic performance.

Students are also learning ICT skills through the digital platform and improving on concepts that they found difficult at school. The diverse educational content on Ruzivo also allows students to study ahead of their subject learning schedules and enhances their general knowledge.

Across Zimbabwe students are accessing the platform using internet enabled devices such as tablets and desktop computers. Built with an interactive, student friendly interface, Ruzivo allows the students to study, do exercises and be monitored by parents or educators anywhere and everywhere!

Many students and educators across Zimbabwe have embraced Ruzivo digital learning. So far we have registered over 320 000 young scholars on Ruzivo. Soon, we will have secondary school curriculum on the platform positioning Ruzivo to impact Africa’s next generation. Some of the students and educators who use the platform regularly had this to say.

“Ruzivo has improved a lot in my studying from my favourite subjects to my worst. So thumbs up to Higherlife Foundation for helping us improve through Ruzivo!” -Keegan Wheel, Charlsworth Primary School, Shurugwi

“Ruzivo is a splendid program for your children. Your children learn better and sharpen their ICT skills.”- Mrs. Muchinhairi, Hatcliffe 1 Primary School, Harare.
